Women’s Research Wānanga

Women’s Research Wānanga (WRW) is a collaborative arts research project founded by Rychèl Thérin Scott in 2023. It brings together independent artists exploring female experience, feminist perspectives and shared ways of making and learning.

The project uses the spirit of wānanga: sustained conversation, collective enquiry and time spent living, working and thinking together. Through residencies, exhibitions, workshops, film and performance, WRW creates space for ideas to develop through relationships between people, materials, places and lived experience.

Emma’s involvement

Emma’s contribution connects WRW’s collective research with her ongoing exploration of womanhood, strength, transformation and self-acceptance. For CONSUMED, she extended her Female Warrior Army project into a participatory workshop, inviting collective making and conversation.

Washed Ashore

Developed during WRW’s Huddle III research period in Jersey, Washed Ashore places a veiled figure within the tidal landscape. The work explores exposure, endurance and transformation at the meeting point between body, land and sea.

Selected project history

2023 — WRW founded and the first research group formed.
January 2024 — Huddle I, Grève de Lecq Barracks, Jersey.
September 2024 — Huddle II, Trélex Residency, Switzerland.
November 2024 — DESCANSOS (We die 1000 deaths), Vienna Art Week, Vienna.
January 2025 — Huddle III, Grève de Lecq Barracks, Jersey.
Autumn 2025 — CONSUMED, ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House, St Helier.
